Glen,
I removed the half shafts and the drive shaft yesterday, so I'm certain there's no binding. I put it back together, swapped the front and rear tires, and went for a drive. I drove 3/8 of a mile and didn't think I'd make it back. There is now a banging sound in the drive train. I'm assuming it must be in the diff, although I always thought that diffs wouldn't cause vibration

: John have you tried the hose clamp trick
: as I responded to Oscars post a few
: threads below this?

: Also to properly check a u-joint, the
: shaft has to be removed so you are able
: to feel the action of the joint. They
: can bind up & it won't always be
: apparent with the shaft still fitted.
: This can be the source of vibrations.

: Over the last couple of weeks vibration
: from the back of the car has started
: and has increased to a level that I
: thought something was going to go.
: Wheel beaings, rotoflex couplings,
: u-joints are all good. The input and
: output shafts of the diff feel good.
: Any ideas?
: Thanks!
