As they (we) are here, just as we (you) are here, the assumption is a little patronising. But although 'bhp' is a moveable feast, and no two rolling roads agree, you may have missed that this is a 2.5 with alleged full race spec. Such an engine to my knowledge has been measured at 220 bhp.
Brake Horse Power has the same relationship to torque and revs in the UK, USA and on the far side of Saturn. But the skill and sometimes honesty of the rolling road operator is as important; for instance just blowing up the tyres (tires) harder can get you an apparent 5bhp extra, for no charge!
So like you, I take bhp figures with scepticism, but I don't imply different methods of measurement.
You may be thinking of octane ratings - Reserach Octane Number (RON) and Motor Octane Number (MON). RON is more often used in the UK and MON in the USA, and RON=0.9MON (approx).
