Well after reading the posts, you have most of the answers but I'll just add a little more...
You've already discovered the secrets of the Metalastik bushes. They are actually quite good (genuine ones), & they are used where there are heavy loads ie spring ends & a-arm mounts. There is no relative movement, the rubber flexes in shear.
I don't use the poly bushes in most applications for exactly the reason that you brought up; they are a poor design in that they have no steel sleeves. Not only from a wear standpoint, but also in most double-shear suspension fittings, the fastener is tightened until the inner sleeve is clamped down tight. With poly bushes, they just get clamped down until the bush gets squished, & then the bush just kinda floats around in there. Also at that point there are probably bending loads in the mount brackets due to overtightening the fastener, again because there is nothing for the fastener/brackets to clamp down on.
I hate to say it but I'm gonna say it anyhow, but for the most part they really suck...
They are OK on sway bars & as replacement for rubber top-hat bushes.

: glen, thanks. I thought that but it seems
: odd that it's tackwelded in there. Is
: that a standard GT6 spring? Most I've
: seen have rounded ends rather than the
: "squared" style I have.
