True that it doesn't carry chassis weight but when the shock gets into high-speed action there is a heavy load into the mounts.
Since it's a cantilever load, there will be a lot of bending & torsional loads put into the chassis. Anything that can be done to stiffen it up will be a good thing.
BTW your project is coming along nice Josh!
