Steve,
You have to start with a 4 syncho box, on the Spit that can be the 3 rail or single rail but the single is quite a bit heavier.
The 3 synchro gearboxes are no use - the case is shorter.

: Hey Nick,
: So whatdya think, If these are TR7
: based than it would require the reverse
: gear and 1-2?? hub to finish it off
: when converting the earlier boxes?
: Worth doing mind you but people gotta
: know going in? Steve

: The ratios are the same as GT6 as it is
: based on the GT6/TR7(4 speed)/Dolomite
: 1850 gearset. The only difference is
: the input shaft which is reduced in
: diameter and length and resplined to
: suit the Spitfire. It is a great mod
: for any Spitfire (or Herald come to
: that) and very reasonably priced.
: Canleys can also supply the best mix of
: parts to build a stronger GT6 box.
: Others do sell these parts but I think
: Canleys is the ultimate source for all
: of them.

: It sure beats scrounging around for
: good
: used GT-6 gearbox stuff & it's a
: really good price for new parts.
: I would be curious what the ratios are,
: I didn't see it listed.

: Judging from your responses it must be
: a
: pretty good upgrade.

: Even with the &&/pound rate, that
: actually is a pretty good price.

: Wow! Excellent price! Presumably,
: although it doesn't say, it's built on
: the stronger TR7 reverse gear laygear.
: Worth inquiring as you'll need a few
: more parts if so.

: I have a 67 MkIII that I am rebuilding
: the gearboc. I'm interested in the
: close ratio set of gears offered by
: Canley. Anybody have any good advice
: about rebuilding a gearbox with CR
: gears? I know about maximizing the
: powerband but anything else? Different
: sources for gears, tech tips etc.
