Works for me.... 3.89 amd 3.63 are pretty much identical apart tfrom the CW & P. More care needed with 3.27 and 4.11 though.
: Yesterday I checked the pinions for
: both the 3.89 that came out of my
: diff and the 3.63 that I am trying
: to put it the diff. They appear to
: be identical. So I'm going to do
: what Nick said to.
:
:
: Thanks for your response. After I
: posted here I checked several
: sources including Ted Schumacher who
: very definitely said the 3.63
: R&P could not be installed into
: the MK IV diff case. I guess I need
: to compare the two pinion gears and
: see.
:
: I have a solution of sorts. I
: actually have a 1500 diff in my MK I
: that I could use to rebuild and
: could put the MK IV diff into that.
: Just requires assembly of two diff!

: Bill,
:
: The Crush spacers are directly
: interchangeable with the solid type
: and the solid type are greatly
: preferable. Have the shop reuse the
: solid spacer.

: I am about to take my MK IV
: differential to shop to have a
: 3.63:1 ring and pinion installed
: into it. Problem is I now see that
: this R&P takes the crush spacer
: not the solid spacer that is in my
: diff. Question is, can I use this
: R&P in my differential at all.
: I see there are two part numbers for
: 3.89 R&P which makes me think
: there is a definite diffence. Am I
: screwed?
