Wiley the speed of the boat plays a real big part in that answer.If your just using your trolling motor on like 2 or 3 with about 40'of line out with a #5 split shot your between 6' to 10'deep.The wind will play a big part also,some times when the fish are suspended say at 30' and iam pulling planner boards i will use 2 1/4oz split shot with about 40' of line out ,but down rods with 1oz egg sinkers will do the trick also.CLUBB
