In early summer on Lake Hartwell, SC when stripers retreat into the tree tops and are hard to locate, I substitute a bait walker rig or snagless sinker on a downrod carolina rig in place of the egg weight. On the leader containing the bait, place a small 1-2" crappie float to keep the bait up out of the trees and lower the rig to tree top level and slowly troll thru the trees. The baitwalker rolls the line over high spots. When fish are found, mark the spot, anchor and present downrods straight down to the fish.
