No offence intended to anyone but part of the problem is that the "scene" - specifically the styles of music that make up the scene - moves on. It evolves. Changes. Otherwise it stagnates and dies. It's my experience that many, though certainly not all, people into the "scene" just... don't. They get stuck in a rut usually inside a time scale roughly 5 years either side of when they were aged 18 to 25. #### that. There are still bands out there playing heavy guitar music and while not all of them are particularly good there are quite a few that are excellent. Sounds exactly like the thrash metal scene as was to me. And any other scene you care to mention while we're at it. Just because it doesn't have a particular guitar sound or speed doesn't make it any less relevant or "real metal". Maybe it's time to get out of the rut of only sticking with what you know that many people seem to be in and go out and do something about it. Sure, we've all got our respective resposibilities but there's something to be said for getting off your arses and making an effort. Alec's still doing it. The guys from Vaira are still doing it and when they finish their recording, I'll be joining them. At 34 years old. Nearly middle aged if you will. Whatever your opinion of them, Steve Davis from Shadows of Wrong is pushing 60 and he's still doing it. Or maybe folks just can't be arsed. No wonder they think the scene died. Sorry to single you out John but why don't you sit for a while and think about just why Bloodstream aren't doing anything right now? Is it personal life getting in the way or is it venues that don't seem to be quite as full as they used to be? I realise this may be inflammatory but have you thought about altering your approach to writing music? Try listening to bands like Disturbed and find out which direction heavy music is going these days. My apologies if you have already mate. Unless you merely dismiss them as some "emo" or "nu-metal" band. Whatever the blinking flip these terms are supposed to mean. Bloody well GET yourself excited about it again! Break out something heavier than a bag of spanners and if you can't crank your stereo then at least get some ####ing good headphones and spend half an hour a day just listening. It's great that there's a new venue on the "scene". Check it out. Book a gig. Show the kids how it's done. Go and inspire and maybe in turn draw inspiration from the kids. That goes for everyone. Cheers.
