I beg to differ, i think it's fair to say that without Thrash there wouldn't be such a plethora of DM. Let's not forget that DM was almost wiped off the map in the early 90's by the rise of the Scandinavian Black Metal movement, it was only the true talent that survived in the field of DM (Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse etc etc) just as the true talent of the Thrash era survived the DM explosion(Slayer, Nuclear Assault, Testament etc etc). But as for Thrash in general yes some of the vokillz can be whiny at times but then again some if not most DM vokillz sound like an orangutan having sex with a rhinocerous, also i'd much rather listen to higer tunings as it's far more difficult to write and play complex riffs and be heavy at the same time therefore more challenging. It is possible to be heavy while playing in a higher tuning(Cannibal Corpse tune to E flat) just listen to Ride The Lightning and tell me that aint heavy or Reign In Blood and Game Over which combine speed with heaviness. Music runs in cycles and it's the turn of Thrash to rise again, yes DM will have it's day again as will Black Metal and Doom etc etc but for now let's THRASH 'TIL FUKKIN' DEATH!!!!
: Thrash riffs sound so thin and powerless after
: you listen to death metal that's tuned to B
: or even A. I always found it amusing when
: thrash bands bragged about tuning down--yet
: they only tuned down to d!
: And that one-two thrash drum beat... thank
: #### that dm incorporated more involved
: drumming, much higher velocities, and
: blasting.
:
: The worst thing about thrash is the
: vocals... whining, snot-nosed snarling,
: semi-shouting, but rarely ever deep and
: powerful... sometimes thrash singers even
: sounded as though they were bored... why
: didn't they ever get it that low notes are
: heavier than high notes?
:
: The lyrical content was dire as
: well--nuclear war! World War III! #### the
: government!
: The worst, though, were the 'jokey' thrash
: bands.
:
: The bottom line: people listened to thrash
: for the speed, the intensity, the
: heaviness... yet death metal eclipses thrash
: in these respects. Why bother to listen to
: thrash when we have dm?
: It's akin to choosing to keep driving a Golf
: when your budget allows for a Ferrari.
: Death metal is the alpha male, the apex
: predator, of metal; thrash, meanwhile, is
: simply weak, slow, and outmatched. Let it
: die!
