I am deeply disappointed to hear about the negotiations under way for producing a film remake of Saturday Night Fever. It's part of the pantheon of film classica, and just like Casablanca or Singin' In The Rain, it's a one of a kind of it's time. With the original film's success as much about its music as its cast, screenplay and intimate capture of an era, the idea of Simon Cowell turning it into a hip hop infused vehicle for pretty boy Zac Efron is unfathomable. I can only hope, for the sake of his and his film's legacy, that Mr. Stigwood will reconsider changing forever this important part of our popular culture.
