Watch A Half Million Birds Fly Over The Connecticut River During The Annual Summertime Show Of Swallows
Every year, the Connecticut skies swirl with activity. Nicknamed an “avian ballet,” the annual tree swallow migration takes place from late summer to early fall. These colorful winged creatures soar over the Connecticut River in droves, and the views will take your breath away. On some days, you’ll see as many as one million birds in the air at once!
The annual summertime show of swallows is a sight to behold.
The put-in is at 17 Bushnell St, Essex, CT 06426. Look for the public access sign.
Plan to launch at 5pm, and be off the water after dark. Bring a white light to display on your kayak, and a flashlight or headlight to help get off the water and packed.
Rich Coupland is planning to scout this trip on the 5th, and he will update the guidance as needed. If the weather isn't clear on the 10th, we may be able to shift it to Monday th 11th or Tuesday the 12th.
