Re: Snowshoeing on Saturday
It was just me and Bill with 18’” of nice light powder, gusty winds, and wind chills below zero. The easy route here is down the bikepath to the Kelly House, but you are in the wind the whole time. Instead, I led Bill off the bikepath near the Ashton Dam on to a trail along the Blackstone River that leads up to Albion. It is out of the wind, but there are some steep slopes down to the river. We made it about a quarter of a mile up to Route I-295 when I slipped and almost went down the slope. Bill decided it was time to turn around. From there it was a steep climb up the ridge to get back to the Visitor Center. Good thing Bill is a good sport - I like to keep things interesting for him. We were out for about an hour and a half, and probably went about a mile and a half. That was enough. Lunch afterward at Jacky’s Galaxie in Cumberland made it all worthwhile.
