Beaver Dams on the West River

An old roommate was visiting and we decided to paddle Thursday morning. Opted to stay local on the West River putting in on West River Rd near Rt 16. Encountered one new tree down that someone had recently cut a passage through, and three beaver dams. The first was a non-event, the second a challenge to paddle over, the third, well north of the E Hartford tunnels, was about a foot and half high and we had to exit and climb/pull over it. Probably because of this last beaver dam, the water was higher than I'd ever seen it at the upper reaches and we were able to paddle over the low concrete dam just under the big West River Dam. This is still one of my favorite short paddles.
