Meet Saturday, August 25th at 9:00 AM at Powder Point Bridge,Duxbury. Parking lot to the right of bridge. Launching at 9:30 AM. Let me know if you will be attending the trip, so we don't leave anyone behind
Plan on bringing lunch, swimsuit, towel, money (optional) for two locations that offer ice cream on the barrier beach.
Duxbury Bay and the tidal rivers of the Great Salt Marsh offer natural beauty and serenity. Duxbury’s seven-mile-long barrier beach is a natural breakwater that protects the bay and marsh and creates a paddling haven for kayakers.
Essentially this can become a two part trip depending upon interest, tide and weather, so one can plan on 4 hour timeframe plus more time if heading into the back marshes. First part, departing from the Powder Point Bridge paddling south about an 11 mile loop which will incorporate paddling along the barrier beach, Gurnet creek, Saquish Beach, picnic lunch and swim, circumnavigate around Clark's Island the first landing place of the pilgrims which contains Pulpit Rock aka the "Real Plymouth Rock", crossing bay up along inland coast of South Duxbury back to launch site at Bridge or visa versa trip direction (majority choice). Second part, paddle north of Bridge into the adjacent salt marshes which make for some beautiful flatwater paddling and explore why Duxbury Bay serves as an important nursery for all sort of marine critters.
