I would suggest looking into the paddle destinations you want to explore and then find a NY State campground in the area. I have found all the NY State campgrounds to be more than adequate. I love Rollins Pond, but I hat the drive in and out. As Cheryl mentioned we stayed at Lake Eaton which was convenient to a lot of great paddles. Wwe did Bog River flow, Moose River, Rich Lake, Raquette River, Lake Eaton and others. If you haven't done the loop (almost) from Ampersand Bay on Lower Saranac to Flower Lake you should try it.
