Subject: "Flash-mob" (semi-organized) paddle event
Greetings!
The Borderlands Project in Killingly is now focusing on providing what Killingly residents have said they miss - access to our many wonderful water bodies.
Two successful paddling events have already taken place, one on the Quinebaug River as part of a triathlon event, and the other on the Five Mile River. Folks loved it and want more.
So here's more. We will be sending out notices about kayak/canoe gatherings via email, plain old word of mouth and however else people choose to communicate these days. If you personally are not interested, please forward this message to those you think might enjoy such things. Let me know if you want future notifications.
Our purpose is two-fold. First and foremost, we want to have FUN. Second, we want to have fun as publicly as possible, letting others know that we can have this kind of fun locally. Therefore, our paddles will take place on highly-visible bodies of water at times when we may have lots of observers. If you wear a neon yellow T-shirt, that's a good thing.
Weather permitting, we will paddle on Friday, June 26 at 5:30 pm, on Middle Reservoir in East Killingly. It is located on northern (left) side of Route 101, as you are heading east beyond the East Killingly Fire House. We will access the reservoir from Pond Road (off of Route 101) so continue until you see Pond Road on the left side of the highway. Turn left onto Pond Road and there will soon be places to put your cars.
Let me know if you want to participate, but don't have a kayak/canoe. We will try to find a seat and paddle for you.
Virge
