Hello Glenda,
I have been visiting the Adirondacks for many years to go paddling. The St. Regis area is undoubtedly the finest paddling area in the northeast. However, there isn't a great deal to do beside fish and paddle.
The Long Lake area may suit your needs a little better. There are many trips in the area that can be varied in length from a few hours to a few days. The Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake is a great spot to spend a rainy day. There are restaurants in the Long Lake area and there is also a town beach with slides and the like. Lake Lila is nearby and that is as pristine a body of water that you will ever see.
