My wife and I will be going up to the St. Regis Canoe Wilderness area in the Adirondacks the week of August 11 for a back-country paddling trip. The plan is to do the "9-carries" route through the St. Regis Canoe area over 4 days and three nights. It is only about 12-13 miles, so the pace is very relaxed. Camping is primitive, but if we're lucky we'll be in a lean-to at least one of the three nights. I am sending this to see if anyone is interested in joining us.
The paddling is all flatwater, over a number of small to medium-sized ponds. However, there are many carries to get to each pond along the route, most pretty short but at least one in the mile-long range. This means two things: packing light makes things easier, and using a kayak, while not impossible by any means, will be much more difficult on the carries than will a canoe.
This area is fairly remote but used a lot by paddlers, so we will more than likely run into other paddlers. We won't have to deal with any motorboats, though, since all motorized craft are prohibited in this region of the Adirondacks park.
If you are interested in this trip and want more details, please e-mail me. All I ask is that you are equipped for, and have some experience with, primitive camping. The paddling is pretty easy, so long as we don't run into ferocious winds. Also, due to the difficulties in logistics otherwise, I will limit the trip to no more than four other paddlers.
