That turned out to be an understatement.
From Plumbers Landing down to Rice City Pond the river was extremely low. At times it felt more like a hike than a paddle since we were frequently out of our boats walking through shallow areas.
As always, the group took it in stride and helped out to make sure everyone got through. (Note to self - despite how the river looks from the road, 3.5’ on the Northbridge gauge is definitely to low for the section.
)
After a break for lunch, the run through River Bend Farm was much easier.
There were some tricky currents, but nothing too difficult. We continued past the Staley Woolen Mill and ran the small broken dam under the Rt. 16 bridge. From here down to Rt. 122, the trip was uneventful except for a large tree blocking the river about a mile from the Rt. 122 bridge. Once again, everyone helped out and we were quickly on our way.
