The river is one to two miles across, so changing weather/winds can create open ocean conditions in places. Currents can also be a problem. I'd think of this in the same way as a Narragansett Bay paddle. I don't know what your skills are, but if you're interested in doing this river check out the sea kayak section on the web site for any upcoming trips.
