Posted by Carole We now have the opportunity to bring our students to OSA for an outdoor learning adventure. On June 7, the students will paddle from the OSA launch in Bristol Harbor out to Hog Island (and back - unless the kids are really, really bad The cost of the trip is only $30 each, but because we’re a public non-profit school program, our budget is always wanting. I’m writing to ask if anyone would like to sponsor a student for part of their trip. If you could donate $10 for a student to attend, we can bring all of the kids who want to go. Since we’re a non-profit, we can send you a letter to use for your taxes. If you want to sponsor a student, please send a check by June 1, payable to SORICO (which is the Southern RI Collaborative), to SORICO ForwardView Academy, 646 Camp Ave., North Kingstown, RI 02852, Attn: Carole If you have any questions, give me a call at 295-2888 X118 or send me an email message. Thanks so much!

Calling All Kayakers,
I work in a school program, ForwardVIEW Academy, for at-risk high school students. Recently Jack and Cat Radcliffe from Ocean State Adventures (OSA) in Bristol, came to our school and did a wonderful presentation to our kids on kayaking gear and safety. They even brought two boats and did a very theatrical T-rescue on the grass with Jack (the victim)- dramatically and comically pretending to be really, really cold and exhausted - swimming (aka crawling) through the water (aka grass) at Cat’s instruction.
). For most of these kids it will be an experience and a challenge they might never have otherwise. Teamwork, responsibility, confidence, communication, self-esteem – what better ways to teach kids these skills?
Carole
