I have 8 pieces of flow blue that my grandparents collected years ago and I need help getting them appraised and selling them. Can anyone help me with this?
Hi Jill: First you need to identify what you have: all flow blue is not equal! There might be a backstamp on your pieces that tell the pattern name and the potter's name. That is definitely helpful. Next you need to say what pieces they are and the size: i.e.6",7",8" plates, etc. Then you need to list what condition they are in: any chips, cracks, crazing, etc. It would help to know what area of the country you are in: maybe someone who checks the message board lives in your area and could help you. If you would like to send pictures to us, we could possibly help you with an appraisel. You can send to my email address or send to kjboyer@cmconline.com. If you send pictures, be sure to take a picture of the backstamp also, and all of the above points would be needed to let you know a "best guess" value. You might also want to check eBay to see if any of the pieces you have are listed and what they go for. Also, you might try consigning your items to an auction house. Hope this is helpful. Please think hard, though, on if you really want to sell your grandparent's dishes. Sometimes it is nice to keep hold of that type of item.
I live in northern Illinois. I could check into some auction houses. I have several other antique dishes my grandparents collected that I'd like to sell. I kept the items I wanted, the rest of it is just taking up space.
I'll be sending you some pictures shortly. Thanks for your help.
Look forward to seeing what you have. There are several club members that live in the Northern IL/Wisc/Northern IN area: we may be able to see if any are dealers that could contact you. We have had good luck selling through auction houses, some of them have special "antique" auctions throughout the year.
I have a beautiful flow blue platter that belonged to my grandmother. It is in perfect condition. Very deep, dark blue. It must be 100 years old or so. I would like to sell it. I will take a picture of it and hope someone could tell me what it is worth and buy it. I have been told it should sell for over $500.
