hi Debbie: I contacted a couple members on this soap dish and here is all we could come up with. A search of the word “depose” brought up that in the world of antiques, that mark is commonly found on German or French porcelain, and stands for ‘’registered” (German word Deponiert,) so this could be a German or French product.
I originally thought it might be a Brown-Westfield mark, but the register number is approx. 1842 (Arnold Kowalsky Book of Marks, and B-W did not start mfg until 1859-1862.
Jackie from England wrote the following: If this is English it may be John Meigh the fact that the Lion does not face out corresponds with a mark for John Meigh you can also see the tail coming up behind the shield most of the Royal Coats of Arms has the Lion facing out – the shield is also quartered and has the Crown on the top which makes it after 1837 – Registration numbers started in 1884 here in the UK and were for either the form / shape or pattern. It could be an English piece that then the potteries had the design or form registered in Europe if they had intended selling there – you often find English piece that are patterned in the US that way the pottery covered the pattern or form when they exported wares. She references Godden on the registration marks.
So, it could be English, German, or French! Maybe someone else in the club will see this message and have more input on the issue.
As far as value goes, we really can not say. It looks to be in very good condition, but the color is not as blue as what most flow blue collectors look for. It seems to be more of a slate blue/gray from the pictures. You have to make that decision along with your consignee based on maybe a local trip to an antique store in your area to see if they have something similar. Sorry we can't be more specific.
