I have a plate which is clearly Wattaeu on front but has Aittan on ribbon below crown although the Rd No is 555592? Anyone know if this could have been mistake? Also the ribbon below crown does look misaligned. Back Mark on Plate Front of Plate

Hello Tina, We have had several of these plates, none of which had the Watteau pattern name on the back. This was made by Brownfields Pottery circa 1898. The full name on the ribbon should read Mattean. If the m and the n were upside down it would read watteau. Whether this was done deliberate or a mistake by the pottery, no one will know. At least 9 different potters made a Watteau pattern. Hope this helps. Thank you for using the message board. Kim
