Good Evening Latena,
Our primary purpose for this site is to give information on specific patterns or pieces as a rule. However, as passionate collectors of this china, we of course, agree that it would be best to keep the set together. There are pros and cons to both of the methods you asked about. One will entail alot of packing and shipping on your part. Although the buyer pays the cost, you will have the work to do and the important pieces such as the teapot, the tureens, larger platters, etc. really should be double boxed for protection during shipping. An auction can be effective depending on where the sale is located and how much advertising the auctioneer does and/or if he has a regular following of loyal customers. Both solutions will have expenses involved for you in one form or another. Perhaps you should work out the costs of both ways and go with the one with which you are most comfortable. Another option is to seek out a antiques dealer that you trust and see if they would be willing to purchase your set. You might receive less money but with no expense and little work involved. Generally, dealers pay apprx. 50% of what they think they can sell the item(s) for on their end. Sorry we couldn't be of more help. Good luck with your decision making.
