Yes many times they are bought from auction barns. I have a rescued PMU mare, she is one of the nicest horses in my barn, and I purchased her from S.A.D. horse rescue. I would suggest going to Saver a draft horse rescue to buy horses from them. THey assess, properly treat, expose the horse to the farrier and vet. If you are new to the adoption process, this is definately the way to go. You may have great intentions, but get an animal that you are unable to help.
