My sisters and I are attempting to place a horse from my recently deceased father’s farm. We have attempted to give the horse away to several of my father’s friends who have expressed interest. The reason we have been unsuccessful in placing the horse is because he has never been broken. He is barley halter trained and definitely not trailer trained. Quotes from local vets are $400 and higher to give the animal a tranquilizer (for the purposes of trailering). With the remaining assets of the property being sold, we are faced with possibility of having to put the horse down. Trust me euthanasia is the last thing that we want for an animal that my father loved, but we find ourselves in a quandary – who wants a 12 year old unbroken gelding that is impossible to move by trailer?
I am reaching out to you in the hopes that you can help us or have suggestions on how we can move the horse from the property and find a home for him. My father’s farm is located 15 miles north of CdA. We are working with a 6-8 week window of time. Do you think that you can help us?
Thank you in advance for your time.
