Hay all Painted Star Equine Rescue needs your help. We just got a Paint 20yr old gelding that needs surgery. He is a super, super sweet guy and he has Alot of life and is just not ready to give up on life. He has a pretty good sized lump on his penis that has kept him from retracting it for about 3 months now. The vet thinks that this was caused by a Kick from another horse and has given us three options. One is two pull the penis up into the sheath and staple it so it cannot hang down and cause him so much pain this will cost around $275.00, the other is to cut the excess skin and stitch him up to reduce the size of the penis or sheath? itself so it cannot hang so low ( i did not 100% understand what he was talking about) and last would be to have the penis just cut off completely, kinda like turning him into a mare and this would totally take care of the problem, witch I feel is the best option this will cost about $600 to $800, I will know more on Monday when the vet calls back. His former owner had a vet out when it happened but the vet had no idea what it was or what to do with it ( she is a pretty green vet) So she ran lots of test for the last two months and determined it was not cancer, but she had no idea what to tell the former owner what to do. So in this time it got worse, and worse. To the point where the horse was in so much pain he lost Alot of weight and the owner was going to just have him put down. He is now much more comfortable then he was at that time thanks to a friend of ours and the former owner that got their vet out and he did stitch it up farther in the sheath for a short time, witch did help it retracted some so it is not hanging as low, and it is now kepted rapped up so it will not hang and cause him so much pain. But I feel he needs to have the surgery ASAP so it will not get worse agin and then the only option may be to put him to sleep, which I don't want to see happen, as he is a REALLY sweet horse and he deserves a chance.
SO please if anyone can help us raise the money to help this boy get the surgery he needs we would greatly appreciate it! I will post pictures tomorrow. If everyone on this list could just donate $5 or $10 dollars I know we could get this done in no time! This would make this geldings Christmas be a happy one and he could start the new year off without the pain he has had now for many months.
