: I have had horses my whole life, but I
: am always willing to learn more
: about feed. My three older horses
: always start to drop weight in the
: middle of the winter. They are
: roughly between 12-20 yrs old. They
: have good quality hay at all times.
: I feed Triple Crown senior and
: Reliance 10. They are all dewormed
: regularly. I have used beet pulp in
: the past with no success other than
: a mess. I have started adding veg
: oil slowly to their ration. I am
: wondering how often I increase it
: and to what amount they can get.
: Dont want them to get the runs. Any
: info or links would be helpful.
: Thanks in advance.

Michele- I've had the same problem with my older horses, mine are 18-38. We also tried all kinds of supplements, but the veg oil works well. Our vet said add as much as you want that doesn't make the feed turn to mush. You can also add some oats or cracked corn. Another good thing to try is the probiotic supplements. They help with digestion, so they absorb more nutrients from the feed. Good luck.
