Each year the ECMA hands out the Stompin' Tom Connors Award to a person from each of the ECMA regions which consist of NB, PEI, Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, and Newfoundland/Labrador.
This years Nova Scotia award will go to Joyce Seamone, from Pinehurst, Lunenburg County.
This award began in 1993 because of a request by Stompin' Tom Connors. At that time, Connors was presented with the Dr. Helen Creighton Lifetime Achievement Award, but instead of accepting it, he requested that an award be created to honour musicians who've made long-term contributions to the East Coast Music industry.
The recipients are chosen by a committee of Atlantic Canadian folklorists in consultation with the ECMA board of directors.
Joyce will receive her award during the ECMA 2009 event to be held in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland, from Feb. 26 to March 1
