    AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #26
    writer. Christos N. Gage
    artist. Rafa Sandoval

Synopsis: the police and heroes in Charlotte, North Carolina fight the New Warriors in the streets, causing chaos. At Camp H.A.M.M.E.R. Osborn unveils his Fifty State Initiative; including Oregon's Force of Nature, North Carolina's U-Foes, Marylands's Psionex and Delaware's Women Warriors. The media is doubtful; until Constrictor gives a moving speech about honour and soldiers losing limbs, that win them over. Back at the New Warriors base, the team is starting to fall apart; and questioning if they are "selling their souls" to stop the bad guys; and is it worth it. The Hood confronts and kills Vampiro at Camp H.A.M.M.A.R. for risking ruining their plan by eating prostitutes at gas stations. In therapy Trauma [Terrence Ward] tries to help Penance [Robbie Baldwin]; but without letting him "regain control" of his mind. The Hood and Taskmaster gather to discuss a problem. It seems some cosmic beings have staged a prison riot in the 42; and Osborn needs them to shut it down. Problem is, the Initiative recruits don't want to get killed; so the Hood is sending in "cannon fodder" to weaken the rioters. He picks the Shadow Initiative and F-list villains who "don't make the cut". He expects they're all going to die.
~ cliffhanger: Tigra breaks into Percy (of the Brothers Grimm)'s apartment, beats him up and breaks his hands. Saying she got it all on tape; and the Hood's lackies better watch out. [grade: B]

    LOVED
    1. Osborn the politician. Gage writes him really well!
    2. Constrictor's whole scene. Sure it was all a lie, but what a great speech; and come on, he did lose both his arms. We should cut him some slack ;\
    3. the Trauma/Penance scene. Sad for both of them, and very well written. Robbie has never been better written (as Penance).

    LIKED
    1. Ultragirl calling the New Warriors out on their illegal actions and motives!
    2. Hood: You're NOT a vampire. You're standing out here in the New Mexico sun. And y'know what? I don't care. I don't care if you're count freakin' Chocula."
    3. how bad-ass Hood looked all "demoned up." Anyone who thinks he doesn't deserve his title as Kingpin of crime needs to look this issue up!

    DISLIKED
    1. Is it bad that I'm totally on the side of Osborn and the Hood? And that I find the New Warriors annoying and TERRIBLY selfrighteous? I don't mean to side with evil, honest ;\)

    OVERALL
I really love this comic already (after only 2 issues), due to Gage's writing. BUT, what is with the New Warriors? I found what Tigra did despicable. I know I'm full of double standards, but I don't care when Osborn or the Dark Avengers do "some bad things" because they are immoral people; doing lots of good and a little evil. But the New Warriors seem to think of themselves as "The good guys" but spend the whole issue only doing bad things. Anti-heroes can get away with being bad, heroes can't. Hope that makes sense. \:\)
    ~ rating: 4 out of 5 [grade: B+]

    Question:
    a) who is Baron von Blitzschlag and do all German characters have a Baron in the family ;\)
    b) what does M.F.C.C. mean?
