FAF Presents: Fashion Fever Barbie & Friends, 2004 (part 1) Archived Message

Towards the end of Fashion Avenue's reign in the pink aisle a new series of dolls and fashions started showing up on store shelves. They were called Fashion Fever. Whereas Fashion Avenue had been almost exclusively fashions sold without dolls, the Fashion Fever series had dolls, fashion sets, accessory sets and even furniture sets. Collections were known as Waves. Fashion Fever was hugely popular and new releases were available for many years.

While my good friend Judie and I do not have nearly all the Fashion Fevers ever released, we have combined our efforts and we do think we have put together a nice representative sample that we hope will give you a good idea of what Fashion Fever was all about.

2004 Fashion Fever Barbie, stock #H0661- The FF's were initially sold in clear tubes with paper tags hanging off of them showing other dolls in the collection. Here Judie's gorgeous NRFB FF Barbie wears an eclectic mix of a blue metallic top, pinstripe jacket, and light denim jeans.

2004 Fashion Fever Barbie, Tokyo Style collection, stock #G9008- I (Jeanne) did not keep any of my FF dolls so this cute fashion would have come on a different doll. The FF fashions are fitted to the belly button body but here I have it on a regular early Barbie body and it fits OK. The Tokyo Style collection was fun and colorful, and an homage to the Harajuku Japan fashions popular at the time.

The bracelets were included with the doll/fashion.

A close-up of the accessories and the paper tags that hung off the tube. The backpack purse has a white pompom and a yellow pompom hanging off one of the straps, and the boots are quite something!

2004 Fashion Fever Kayla, Tokyo Style collection, stock #G9009- Another super cute Harajuku-style fashion with lots of fun pieces. Once again this is not the original Kayla doll modeling but a stand-in model to show the fashion.

Couldn't resist a close-up of those darling Mary Janes and stockings.

The accessories and the paper tags. This pic also shows a large bead necklace that is part of the fashion but is not on elastic string. So I must have removed the original doll's head to remove it.

We hope you will enjoy our little foray into Fashion Fever land. Stay tuned for more next week.
