Last Night, Teresa began her series on the Chicago Love Story.

This In Your Neighborhood for EyeWitness News, I'm Teresa.

In 1919 Dan and Delores Carney bought the building that today houses Vickie's Vintage. With Prohibition the Carney's Talent Agency had money problems, much as many businesses in the entertainment industry. We know that the Carney's supplemented their income with a small bootlegging operation and a neighborhood 'Speak Easy'. Dan expanded in 1925 by providing three rooms for private parties, gambling and entertainment. Musician boarders assisted in the operations.

In the basement our law enforcement team enters the passageway.

Forensic Special Sheldon McIntire with Captain Louise Del Mar enter the secret room crime scene discovered the night before.

    (Non Mattel LIPS)
Detective Joe examines papers on a poker table and the last entry in a journal by Ami Sabatier for February 13, 1926. Much of the text is in Creole with some English.

The well preserved room holds vintage men's clothing, and a 1924 Chicago Transit map.

They find a well stocked Prohibition liquor cabinet.

    WARNING____FOR YOUNG READERS HERE!!!!!PG-13

McIntire: We have two skeletal victims, clothed, and under an improvised blanket. There are no visible signs of trauma and the male appears to still be blowing on a saxophone.

A rock wall hides a swinging cabinet that opened to the passageway. The locking mechanism seems to be in the passage.

Captain Del Mar: One of our victims wore a ten foot ermine stole.

Captain Del Mar:Captain Del Mar: At the time, we could not know of the circumstances which led to their entombment. I must say this is the only death scene that I have walked away from with a smile on my face in my twenty-nine years as a police officer. This couple went to their eternal sleep hands entwined, and apparently with the one they loved.

Teresa: So this IS a mystery and A Chicago Love Story for Valentine's Day. Who was Ami Sabatier with an ermine stole and her companion, the saxophone player? Why were they locked in a secret poker room in 1926 and never found?

What happened to Dan and Delores Carney and why wasn't the lost couple saved? To find out more, ....

Sources and anymore details on my ad-free blog. PG-13, one shot-skeleton warning. Feel free to share on social media.
