FAF Presents: 1997 Barbie Millicent Roberts Collection (part 1) Archived Message

In 1997 there were quite a few different BMR items including a gift set with a doll, boxed fashions, and accessory sets. Today we'll look at the gift set and a stand-alone fashion.

1997 BMR Collection, Perfectly Suited, stock #17567- A beautiful auburn-haired doll in a lovely lavender suit fashion that has extra pieces to take it from the office to an evening out. Note that the doll originally had the top part of her hair pulled into a small high ponytail but the elastic band disintegrated so I just brushed everything back.

The black bodysuit underneath the suit is nicely done with long sleeves rather than being just a shell as you might have expected in regular Barbie fashions.

To sparkle it up for the evening, a different top and shoes, plus a purple beaded necklace were included in the set (as well as white thigh-high hose, not shown).

A close-up of all the accessories including a pair of white undies, a silver bead bracelet to match the silver bead necklace on the doll, and a vintage-style hanger. The set also included a briefcase (non-functioning) and a small pleather-covered notebook that does open to a small pad of paper, plus a "vintage" cell phone.

The boxes for this year did change a bit. The gold foil rectangle BMR logo is gone but the Barbie silhouette is still printed on the clear cover and there is a raised paper "Barbie Millicent Roberts" plaque inside.

The back of the box shows other 1997 BMR fashions.

1997 BMR Collection, All Decked Out, stock #17568- Barbie is all ready to head out on her yacht for the day in this lovely nautical-themed fashion set. First, for a chilly morning she wears a navy pea coat. I thought the polka dot thingie was supposed to be a scarf but it's attached elastic circle was too small to go over her head, and I realized it was meant to be worn around a ponytail as a hair scarf, but I picked the wrong doll for that so I put it so it looked like it was tied to her purse.

Underneath the coat is a bodysuit in sailor's stripes.

After reviewing some boxed pics of this fashion I realized there was an anchor necklace which I eventually found tucked away in her purse (whew! thought I'd lost it!).

Finally to show the pants a bit better, as well as the second bodysuit continuing the anchor/nautical theme and a new pair of shoes. The bracelets are the doll's own.

A tiny navy belt was included that didn't fit over the pants and I concluded it was meant to be worn with the bodysuit when it was worn as a bathing suit.

    Close-ups of the accessories:

Next week more 1997 BMR stuff.
