While the new FF Barbie dolls have the articulated arms and head swaps are easy enough with a heat pad, it irritated me that I still could not fully pose Barbie because of her legs. Then I read a post about leg swapping and thought I would give it a go! Sadly there are not that many Barbie's with the bend leg that do not have those horrid big flat feet! Also the colour matching is a bit of a pain! The FF dolls are a beige skin tone Light, Medium, dark and Ethnic. Many of my dolls that I would like to head swap have a more orange tone! Still hopefully there will be some more soon.
Anyway back to legs... Once you have match up your skin tones head, body, and legs you are ready to begin. The legs with the jointed knees will either be strung with rubber or elastic, just cut and remove. (body on the left) The legs will pop of the articulated body and will leave you with two round ball shapes(body on the right)...
The balls need to be removed and a hole drilled through. The hole needs to be big enough to get elastic through, I us my dad for this.LOL
Thread a peace of elastic (about 3 inches should do) behind the bar on the jointed leg
Sow it with as little spare elastic as you can (otherwise the leg cannot sit flat)
Then using a large needle...
thread the elastic through the drilled body hole you might need pliers to pall the needle through...
Thread through the leg bar.Now this is the hardest bit. Pull the elastic as tight as you can and stitch as close to the bar as you can. The tighter you can get it the tighter the legs will be!
