It is Meet a Moderator Monday: Introducing myself..........Laure!...(msg&pics) Posted by Laure on March 31, 2008, 12:04 pm Message modified by board administrator April 5, 2008, 6:40 pm Most of you know me already, but for those who don't, here is quick recap all about me! This is me taken a few months ago. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, I moved around a bit (Alberta, Georgia, Virginia and Colorado) before landing up here in Saskatoon, SK. I have been here since '94 and I love it, though I am growing weary of winter. I live with my hubby, our teenager, two cats and an Africa Grey parrot who has lived with me the longest, almost 30 years now. Here are the fur/feather family members: Our 17 year old Wander, she rules the roost. Our 10 year old Lil Black, a forever kitten at heart. Kenny bird, age unknown but over 30 for sure. In my teens and in my twenties, I was involved in the horse world, every waking minute was spent at the stables. I took care of several horses, traveled to horse shows, I lived and breathed horses. I eventually became the assistant to the horse trainer, it was hard work but I absolutely loved it! Even when I was a wee one, I knew I would be involved with horses at some point in my life. Me and Critter at the big Santa Barbara horse show we went to every year. I left the horse world to head back to college to work on becoming a Veterinary technician. After graduating, I got married and moved to Canada where I worked full time babysitting for 3 different families. Me at Vet Tech school, don't you just love those glasses frames. After the birth of our child, I knew I would be at home and have been ever since. I homeschool the teenager, dabble with selling on ebay and am a tennis addict, I play 5 or 6 days a week and love to play in all the local tournaments. Even Marna's babies enjoy a little tennis. I am the owner of Doll Divas, I opened up the board in February of 2005, Scribs and Pauline were my partners in the beginning. Val in Cal and Jill in AZ joined the team shortly after and we have grown leaps and bounds since that time. Pauline and Val have since left but we have added new moderators here and there and now we have a fabulous group of folks on the team. You have met some and will meet the rest on the meet a mod Mondays. I don't post on DD as often as I would like, but I do check the board every day. I am in charge of the finances for the board and I help with answering the DD admin email. Plus, as with all the mods, we work together checking the board for inappropriate posts, running contests, swaps, choosing promotional items, coming up with ideas, helping each other with duties when someone will be gone, and trying to keep everything running smoothly. A sign of things to come, me and my Chrissy doll on Christmas morning from long ago. I got started in doll collecting when the Erica Kane Barbie dolls by Mattel (which I have since sold) were first introduced. I didn't buy many dolls at first and actually got sidetracked by the beanie baby craze for a few years, yikes was that ever insane! LOL I eventually got back into Barbie and started off trying to buy them all, but I have fine tuned my collection over the years and mainly focus on the Silkstone dolls now. I own at least one of almost every Silkstone produced to date, I am missing a few of the higher end dolls, City Smart, Chataine, the blonde Trace of Lace and Pink Soiree, I may add them to the collection one day, if the price is right. Here is a sweeping view of my dolly room, my hubby calls it a sports bar because I have filled up ever inch of space with dolly stuff. I have a few Fashion Royalty dolls and almost all of the Homme dolls that have been produced so far. I have a few other odds and ends dolls as well. Mine and my sister in laws childhood dolls: Our original Barbie cases that the above dolls were stored in for years. I grew up in L.A., so See's Candies was another doll I had to add to my collection. I collect Empire State building statues, so this doll was a must have and both of these dolls I felt looked better displayed in their boxes.
