Like I said my tank was as bad as yours and I welded it, i even cut some out and welded a plate in coz it was so bad. The thing with welding them is it will fix the holes now but more may appear. Mine lasted 4 years but it leaked again ruining my custom paint job.
If you have it welded (assuming you can't do it yourself) you'll be paying for this I guess. Then it'll want repainting again a further cost. Then in a year maybe 2 or 10 it'll leak again.
I am lucky as I can do body work I only had my time and materials to loose. HOWEVER 32 coats of paint to build the effect I wanted has been lost. I'm not so fussed because I will do another and had already been thinking about the next paint job.
Your bike is standard so I guess you'll only want to paint it once. I really can't stress enough if your keeping the bike try and source a more solid tank and only paint it once.
Do as I'm going to do make the old tank into a clock and hang it on the workshop wall.

: Thanks Dread,
: I dont think that tank would work because it
: doesnt have the hole underneath for the fuel
: pressure return pipe for the DFI.
: I can't beleive it could be this bad as
: until I started rubbing it down, all the
: tank showed was 1 small pin hole and a
: couple of tiny bubbles in paintwork.
: I've been recommended a tig welding magician
: to see later so I'm hoping he's got a mighty
: impressive wand to wave over it!
: Oh Er, that sounds a bit wrong but I hope
: you know what I mean

: Hi
: ouch thats bad, about the same as the tank I
: had to weld up. I can't speak for magic
: metal and if it would work but to me your
: only would be to buy a new second hand tank.
: Not many are going to be that bad. I just
: checked the one I emailed you about and it's
: didn't sell

:
: Might be a good idea to bite the bullet and
: buy it and at least ride with a colour
: mismatch for the rest of the season and have
: it painted in the winter.

: Hi Dread, like the idea of new site but
: wasn't
: sure to post here or on the new one so I
: thought try here first.
: Had a great ride out to Ludgeshall the other
: night to what was the biggest bike meet I've
: ever been to.
: Problem is brimmed the tank on the way and
: then rode some REALLY pot holed roads, when
: I got there tank was leaking from 1 pin hole
: near fuel tap.
: Having now rubbed the tank down, its full of
: holes.
: A link to my Photobucket pics if anyone
: wants to take a look.

:
: So a few questions
: 1, Will "Magic Metal" get me
: through the summer, dont mind it looking
: rough, just didn't want to miss the rest of
: year
: 2, Is it repairable
: 3, Whats my options
: I'm just worried that even if I can find a
: tank surely I run the risk of it being
: exactly the same
: I feel like I've had part of me amputated
: Cheers Mark.
