Hi Neil, just had my covers plated, they are triple plated, copper/ nickel/ chrome and if done correctly should last a few years. The daft thing is I sent them to be polished! the guy who did it is called Bob Cooper at Chrome Restoration Services, Coventry. He called me and talked me through the process....after it had been done, didn`t have the heart to tell him I was expecting polishing after all the trouble he had gone to! Basically the problem is the alloys used are porous so the plating is difficult to stick to an oil impregnated lump of metal, hence the peeling. Having said all that, the timing cover and starter clutch cover were both plated as OE on my 84 ZG1300 and were more worn/ faded than anything.
Anyway great to know that another one is back on the road, what about some pics?

: Chroming of alloy casings usually ends in
: disaster unless it has been chromed at point
: of
: vehicle manufacture. It is because if the
: casing has been designed to be chromed the
: alloy material is picked to accept chrome
: .Usually it will peeel off
