Don't use a new Z1300 one as it's the same poor design. It fails because of it's design and not due to wear and tear.
I have read the ZZR1100 spring is too strong but I have this fitted. I have not checked the idler wheel since so it may well be dissappearing rapidly. It's been in for a few years now though.
The only other alternative I am aware of is a mechanical tensioner (AKA A.P.E. Tensioner). This is effictivly a manually adjusted tensioner where you tighten a bolt down on to the tensioner and then set it with a lock nut. The advantagbe with this is that it is highly unlinkely to fail but the dissadvantage is that you have to re-tension it religiously at regular intervals.
