Steve,
I built Z1300's brand new out of the crate from 1979 onwards and every one was fitted with BPR6ES from the Japanese & American factory.
BP8ES are fine and the bike will run ok, but if you want the ones Kawasaki fitted, then its the BPR6ES.

: Steve,
:
: The number in an NGK plug is the heat
: rating.
:
: 6 is hotter than 8.
:
: The P in an NGK plug stands for PERTRUDING
: TIP, which means the tip of the electrode
: pertrudes below the bottom of the thread.
: The Z1300 head is designed to use the P plug
: type.
:
: The R in an NGK plug stands for RESISTED
: (not vital in the UK)
:
: Halfords are $hite and have got it wrong
: again.
:
: The correct NGK plug for a Z1300 is the
: BPR6ES or BP6ES as shown in the K Manual and
: fitted at the factory.
:
: BP8ES is too cold. but will do no damage if
: the bike will run ok with it.
:
: If your bike has done more than 40k miles,
: try the slightly hotter BPR5ES which burns a
: little hotter and burns off any excess oil.
: I use these plugs myself in all my Z1300's.
:
