I have had the same problem with a screeching speedo which was caused by the bearing in the threaded part of the speedo body drying up.
I found that if you take the speedo out of the instrument housing and stand the threaded part in some 3-in-one oil overnight the bearing inside will take up some oil as the bearings are porous. A guy who repairs speedos told me they are normally soaked at the factory, but after 30 years it's hardly surprising if the're a bit dry!
You might do both speedo and tacho at the same time as you have to take the instrument housing to bits.
Was a bit hit and miss before I found what the sound was and how to solve it!
