What Dread states is true.
The best advice to anyone is you are 100% safe with the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) head gasket.........if you can afford one, which is often more than a full pattern kit.
I have NEVER had a problem with a Genuine K Head Gasket......but have NEVER had a problem with a pattern one either.
I always use BLUE HYLOMAR on both sides with mine, which was invented by Rolls Royce as a gasket sealant and is a superb product and only £5 per tube.
I have just used a PATTERN GASKET on my current Z1300 with no problems.
Make sure your Block & Cylinder Heads surfaces are 100% clean and gasket free before rebuilding, as no matter which gasket you use, if the surfaces are not 100%, it will leak no matter which gasket you use. Its all about preparation.

: I can tell you this a point Pete and I do
: disagree on. I have tried pattern kits to
: find the head gasket don't seal (so has Kip
: one of my mates) however Pete swears by them
: having not experienced any problem.
:
: I know this will only add to your
: confussion, I'm no mechanic but wouldn't use
: a pattern head gasket (would use pattern for
: all others though)Pete is a mechanic and
: uses and recomends pattern.
:
: You pays your money takes your chance the
: pattern kit is excellent value.
