This is my proposal.
This is similar to the MDRA series but different.'
First, re-adjust the point system to match or be similar the the AMA RPV system. That way there is more than just a 1 point separation between 1st and 2nd place and so on. Also this changes the amount of points based upon each class entry.
Second, this is easier to explain in person, but here it goes. Base the series on 1 race at each track that participates. This is my example.
Say there are 10 tracks that participate. You score will be based upon your best finish at each track throughout the year. IN other words, say Miles Mountain has 4 races during the year. You only need to participate in 1 race to earn points, but if you attended all 4, then you will receive points based upon your best finish. This way racers do not have show up at every race and they can pick and choose which track they want to go to based upon what is happening in their life and what their personal preference is. They just need to race 1 time at each participating track throughout the year to earn points the the year end awards.
So using the example I posted above, a racer can still choose which track he wants to go to as long as he does at least 1 race at each track. This way (for example) if Pagoda and Pleasure Valley are running the same weekend, a racer can choose whichever track he prefers.
This will make it a lot easier for more racers to participate in a series allowing them to miss a few races here and there, yet they can still be able to race the participating tracks on another day. By using a system like this, you will get more rider participation in a series. The ones who race every week will still race every week and those who only want to go once in awhile can still do that and yet still compete in a series.
I believe this is a great idea to make it fair towards everyone. The part this is going to be hard is to have all the tracks participate in this series. This idea still allows some tracks to race on the same day as others. I know a lot of people disagree with that, but tracks have to do what they can to survive. This way no tracks are asked not to run the same day as another track so they can still get all their races in for the year. This also allows racers to choose (for the most part) a closer track or to skip a few weekends if they want.
I know this idea needs to be tweaked here and there, but I really think this makes the most sense with the way rider turnout has been dropping the last few years. More people will participate if they know they don't have to race every weekend and the stress of missing a race is taken off their shoulders.
I welcome any input on this from racers and the track owners. If we all work together, we can change things for the better. Lets discuss this without arguing. Constructive criticism is welcome as long as it pertains to the subject.
