Great question. I think there are a lot of reasons combined.
1: Faster Bikes with more torque give us a little false confidence sometimes.
2: Everyone wanting to be competitive to catch the leader and ride over the edge.
3: More obstacles on the tracks and racers trying to over jump things to go faster.
4: Also its 2012, It might be the end of the world, so everyone is giving it everything they have for their last season to be great. HAHA
