I just can’t help myself; I fully intended to stay out of this. Hopefully I will not regret getting involved,
But…
It continues to amaze me how the people that are paying to play this game are the ones really doing nothing or at least very little (but b*#ch) about it. The promoters of the game have united and formed a Promoters Group. This, for all intent and purposes, is the intelligent thing for them to be doing as it is a substantial undertaking. I also believe “The Promoters” are trying their best to do a very good job with what has been created, even if it is in a non-perfect form. I am also of the belief that they, “The Promoters”, have intentions to provide us, “The Players”, with what we want OR at least what they think we want based on our input, which is probably minimal at best. Can you see how this would be not exactly an easy thing to do?
I am also of the belief that most of “The Players” really have no idea what they really want. It is always much easier and less confrontational to grovel, whine, b*#ch and complain AFTER something occurs that will directly effect them. Additionally, this “noise” tends to be on a message board or at least occurs somewhere that is not heard by anyone that can really do much, if anything about it. That said, maybe it is time “The Players” consider uniting as well. How about a Riders Group? I realize this is truly applying a can opener to a very large can of really ugly worms. However, it might be time to at least start to take a step back and take a serious look at what has been created. Decide what makes it good FIRST. Then also decide where the real problems are and quite honestly, eliminate them. An ORGANIZED group of riders or rider representatives could make an intelligent presentation to the promoters group and get the results that ALMOST everyone would like. It is that simple, not easy, but definitely simple. Actually it would probably be a real pain in the butt, however doing little to nothing is not working out so well either.
I agree with several comments here and disagree with some as well. I too am of the opinion that there are simply far too many classes to run in a single day’s event structure the way it is currently done. It really could be much better with some trimming of the fat and an adjustment to the status quo for non-point paying classes, etc. The Ultimate Series has been built around a two day format. This idea seems to have been well received by both the riders and the promoters. In order to continue to have as many classes that were created and run a REAL race (more than 3-4 laps) it should be considered to start the racing on Saturday afternoon with the practice day ending sooner. The option to this idea is to reduce the number of classes.
A third choice might be to start something NEW. How about a 4 to 6 race series that has minimal classes (like 8) and the motos are 20 minutes + 2 laps X 2 motos. Maybe 30 + 2 for A classes and possibly B…Anyone game? It wouldn’t only be about the holeshot and beginning of the race anymore. I think some real races would take place. Certainly not for everyone, but that would be the whole idea!
A point was made referencing Loretta Lynn’s and some ideas that could be gleaned from their example. As many of you already know there are usually 33 classes that race the National event at Loretta’s. It is definitely a REAL motocross race. Granted it is a much larger event, with a different format and with much more considered at stake…it takes 5 DAYS to complete. With all the classes now, we are trying to do almost the same thing in one day! More classes are not needed, especially non-point paying classes. I too would need an explanation to understand that idea.
It is VERY unlikely that EVERYONE is going to be satisfied with whatever might come out of this exchange of thoughts. But it seems like the time may be right to make an organized effort to try to improve the overall game by working together. Is anyone willing to participate in such an effort?
