I am sorry that you felt London to Brighton was an inappropriate film for the Film Society. In choosing this film the committee felt that it was an extremely powerful British film in the genre of Get Cater, Mona Lisa etc. It is an unpleasant and harrowing world that is portrayed. It is a million miles from life in Cranbrook but it exists.
Peter Bradshaw - the acclaimed Guardian Film Critic - described London to Brighton as the British Film of the Year. This film is one of a group of independant films that have been made recently that show the harsher side of life in Britain - the less "acceptable" face of Britain - This England, Andrea Arnold's Red Road etc.
Despite your feelings about this particular film I hope that you will continue to support the Film Society. Not only do we have a very srong and varied programme for the year but we are also hoping to "add value" to membership with a number of additional evenings and activities.
