I am not sure if I am right but something rings a bell about what was Swattenden Secondary School, now some sort of centre for children. A large white manor house about two miles out of Cranbrook, set in extensive grounds, incorporating a pond and fir trees near the back entrance of the building. There is a small white gatehouse on the right as you enter a long straight drive with the main house in clear view directly ahead. This building was taken over by the army during the second world war for training, previously owned privately by two sisters. I attended the school during the sixties and it had been a school during the previous decade. What I am not sure of is whether it was used as a childrens home between its use by the army and when it became a school, this would seem a natural progression.
I am not sure if this helps or jogs any memories. I can would be able offer further visual clues if you think that this may be the house.
Good Luck.
