I am hoping that someone may be able to help me with my family reseach, as am at a dead end.
My great great grandfather, Jabez Barnes, was born in Benenden in Kent, and his wife Jane Smith was born in Teyterton Kent according to a cencus record that I have. As his name is unusual, I though it would be easy to trace his birth certificate as I had a year of birth as 1852/3 for both Jabez and his wife. His death certificate suggests this year also. However, there is no bmd record that matches. There is one for 1855, but I need to know that it is the correct record before I take my research further. I am guessing that he made himself appear older to join the policeforce as he served from 1872 until his death.
I have contacted one local church to see if there are any baptism records, for Jabez or his wife, but with no success. I have also contacted he met police, but they have limited information on him.
I am hoping that someone may be able to point me in the right direction, to someone that may be able to shed more light on this, or even if someone has a link to these relations who still lives in the area.
