Posted by Dave Norman I believe the estate mentioned is spelt 'Fryth' possibly ending with an 'e'. There is an old house at the top of the estate at the entrance to the lane that leads to 'Wilson's Farm, this may be the house that you are equiring about. It has a long history and at one time was owned by a Doctor. I may be wrong, but something in the back of my mind tells me that in the past the house has played a role in caring for war wounded or epidemics victims.

Hi.
The only workhouse that I am aware of was 'Hartly House' which became an old peoples home.
Saint-Bridge is most likely to be St. David's Bridge, I would imagine that a lot of work could be found there. When I was a child I remember the blacksmiths, the Tanyard opposite, falling down and no longer in use, the mill just above on the hill, and there has always been a cobblers there. A clue may be found in your Great grandfather's occupation.
